Andrew Luck sets NFL rookie passing record

Add another notch to the belt of Andrew Luck.

In the first half of Sunday’s game against Chiefs, Luck broke Cam Newton’s rookie record for passing yards in a season.

The Colts quarterback needed only 74 yards to eclipse the mark (4,051 yards), set last year by Newton. Luck went into halftime with 4,101 yards on the season, making him the most accomplished first-year signal-caller in league history.

Indianapolis clinched a playoff berth with a 20-13 win, a remarkable turnaround from their 2-14 season in 2011.

Luck likely has a slight edge for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but is no lock with Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson also in the mix. That race figures to be decided in Week 17.
