The Jets have cast a wide net in their search to replace general manager Mike Tannenbaum, with the job seemingly up for grabs.

Unfortunately for Gang Green, they can’t seem to reel anyone in.

“They can’t give the position away,” FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday. “They are now calling back candidates that turned them down, saying please reconsider.”

Among the most reliable insiders, Glazer added that New York is getting “rebuffed a lot” due to several circumstances — Rex Ryan not included.

The Jets have interviewed at least 12 known candidates, including ex-Bears GM Jerry Angelo, considered a “name to watch.” But most up-and-comers, such as 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, appear to be wary of a desolate situation, and don’t watch to hitch their star to a barren wagon.

With Ryan heading into 2013 as a lame duck coach, an offense that’s devoid of talent, and a salary cap held hostage by a series of bad contracts, it’s no surprise the Jets are on Plan Z at this point.

Dump Ryan, Sanchez & Tebow ( never gave him a chance) & the JETS will be much better without them.

Anyone would be a fool to go to the NY Jets without a minmum 5 yr. contract and unlimited control. Must be able to get rid of Ryan, all other coaches if necessary and all QBs. Maybe they need to look at a retired Engineer, with 33 yr. football offical experience like me and stop all this retread mess that doesn’t seem to work for anyone. Need someone with bold fresh thinking. They might also be thinking about what it would cost them to get QB Alex Smith aboard – I certainly don’t see anyone else on the horizon comparable.

The Jets have a long long history of failures. the closest thy have come to success is the Sonny Werblin/Joe Namath eras. All due respect to owner Mr Johnson he is not football savvy and his hiring policies have been questioned to say the most. Some of the managers/coaches have been very poor, the organization could have gone to a High School and found the same if not better, who can forget Kotite, Michaels, etc. Watching the playoffs this week end I made mention of Pete Carroll who was removed after one season with Jets. Lastly how can the Jets Fire Mr Tannenbaum and keeping Ryan, that may be one reason why they are finding it hard to find a GM. GMs want to work with coaches that they are familiar and comfortable with. Ryan has bee an embarrassment since coming to the Jets

And let’s not forget one of the worst coaches, Herm Edwards. That guy was terrible. And his buddy Paul “Can’t” Hackett had to be the worst offensive coordinator in NFL history. BTW, Sparano was a close second.
