Brian Urlacher reportedly ‘leaning toward’ joining Vikings

Brian Urlacher might not be leaving the NFC North, after all.

A source tells Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times that the former Bears linebacker has been in contact with the Broncos and Vikings, and is leaning toward signing with the latter.

“It’s getting close to happening, but Brian is leaning toward heading to Minnesota and is talking a one to two year contract,” a source close to Urlacher told Sneed.

It’s worth noting that Sneed has no history of breaking NFL news, so take this speculation with a grain of salt.

However, the match makes a ton of sense on paper. The Vikes have a huge need in their linebacking corps — much more so than the Broncos — and have been poking around the 35-year-old since March.

Minnesota also didn’t draft any early-round linebackers, a sign their interest in Urlacher could indeed be serious.

The vikings drafted 2 linebackers from Penn State. Hodges and Mauti

  • Curt

What do you mean the Viking did’nt draft any linebackers? Two from Penn State!!

Perhaps I should’ve been more specific. I meant early round selections, probable starters.

You were specific. Stated, “Minnesota also didn’t draft any early-round linebackers”. Blogs are really cool when the people that read them, actually read. Just sayin.

Hodge the 4th rounder is projected as the starting outside LB with Henderson moving to the middle. If Mauti can stay healthy he could see some time in the middle. That will potentially make 5 starters from our first 5 picks. DT, CB, WR, OLB, and P.
    That is an excellant draft.

No Zack, you were specific, its the IQ of Vikings fans at fault

Staying in the NFC North… I kind of hope he does well just to show Chicago he’s still got something left in the tank.

I’m a lifelong Vikes fan & I’m hoping beyond hope they stay away from Urlacher. He’s a linebacker who’s game has always been built on his ability to chase down plays, problem is last year showed his legs didn’t have anything left in them. We’d be better off with Henderson & at least 1 of the PSU guys next to Greenway.

I wouldnt mind having BU on the team for a season or two. Mauti maybe the future at ML.
