Browns rookie linebacker charged with attempted murder

Aaron Hernandez isn’t the only player facing severe legal woes.

The Record reports that Browns rookie linebacker Ausar Walcott was arrested and charged with attempted murder following an incident that occurred in Passaic, New Jersey last Sunday.

Police say the 23-year-old Walcott punched a man in the head outside of The Palace Gentlemen’s Club at 3 a.m. The victim, Derrick Jones, is currently in critical condition after his friends rushed him to a hospital.

In addition to first-degree attempted murder, Walcott has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree endangering an injured victim. He turned himself into police and bail was set at $500,000.

An undrafted free agent out of Virginia, Walcott signed a contract with the Browns last month. The team issued the usual statement, saying they are “aware of the situation.”

Expect Walcott to be released in short order.

UPDATE: Short, short order.
