Larry Fitzgerald admits to being a Vikings fan

Old habits die hard. Or in Larry Fitzgerald’s case, not at all.

The Cardinals’ Pro Bowl receiver admitted to the team’s official website on Tuesday that he’s always been a Vikings fan.

“I grew up a Vikings fan and I would be lying to you if I didn’t say I was still a Vikings fan,” Fitzgerald said. “Growing up in Minnesota it’s second nature. I still pull for them when I’m not playing them. A lot of my closest friends in the NFL are Vikings. I’m close with [Everson] Griffen, Jared Allen, Phil [Loadholt], Adrian Peterson, Kyle Rudolph. You pull for your friends.”

Although headline-grabbing, this news isn’t the least bit surprising. Fitzgerald was born and attended high school in Minnesota, and even was a ball boy for the Vikings. He now resides in Arizona, but the 29-year-old’s family ties remain in the Twin Cities, where his father, Larry Sr., currently works as a sportswriter.

While Fitz is unlikely to ever play for his hometown team, there’s nothing wrong with maintaining a rooting interest. Just ask Cam Newton.
