Jets punter injured himself getting into hot tub

It’s always fascinating to read about athletes injuring themselves in completely innocuous ways. Like the dangers of professional sports weren’t enough, now they must worry about evil rubber mats or flavored sweets putting them out of commission.

Jets punter Robert Malone is just the latest victim of wacky circumstance.

According to Newsday’s Kimberly Martin, Malone revealed on Monday that he hurt his back while getting into a hot tub last week.

Due to the injury — and subsequent re-aggravation — Malone was held out of the team’s preseason contest on Saturday. To combat the issue, he’s tried just about every method under the sun.

Yet he’s still not fully healthy.

Malone’s absence has opened the door for second-year man Ryan Quigley, who’s adequately handled punting duties for the Jets. If Malone misses too much more time, he might not have a job to come back to.

You might say he’s in … treacherous waters.
