Aaron Rodgers may be shut down for rest of season

Aaron Rodgers might have taken his last snap this year.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Rodgers has targeted a Week 14 return all along, but would “be lucky” to suit up against the Falcons next Sunday.

In fact, the Packers’ superstar quarterback could be shut down for the rest of the season, a source with “direct knowledge” of Rodgers’ collarbone injury told Rapoport.

The 5-6-1 Packers’ playoff hopes are on life support, as the team has dropped three consecutive games with the combination of Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn under center. Green Bay’s most recent loss — a 40-10 drubbing on Thanksgiving — highlighted how much they’ve fallen without Rodgers.

With the postseason looking like a pipe dream, it makes sense for the Packers to shelve Rodgers and begin planning for life in 2014.
