Chris Johnson to be released after season?

Time could be ticking down on Chris Johnson’s Titans career.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that “big changes” are coming for Tennessee, and the running back formerly known as CJ2K is expected to be part of the purge.

Johnson is currently in the third year of the six-year, $55.26 million contract he inked in 2011. The Titans could try to swing a deal for Johnson and recoup a draft pick, but teams are unlikely to pick up his $8 million base salary for 2014.

Rapoport also added there’s “philosophical differences” between the organization’s coaching staff and higher-ups. Presumably, that includes Johnson’s production — or lack thereof — this season. The 28-year-old has rushed for 774 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging a paltry 3.8 yards-per-carry.
