Jets reportedly discussed pursuing Jimmy Graham

Free agency is just days away from beginning and the Jets were reportedly considering making a major splash.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets had “internal discussions” about pursuing Saints tight end Jimmy Graham if he would have made it to the open market.

Unfortunately for Gang Green, their plans were foiled when New Orleans slapped Graham with the non-exclusive tag. While he’s technically still able to come to terms with other teams, the Saints have the option to match the deal or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

In other words, Graham-to-the-Jets isn’t happening.

However, Mehta reported New York has had similar “internal discussions” about veteran tight ends Brandon Pettigrew, Ed Dickson and Scott Chandler. They’ve also been linked to Jermichael Finley and John Carlson, who signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals on Friday.

Flush with cap space and in desperate need of offensive skill players, the Jets should be fairly active as soon as the clock strikes 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
