Antonio Cromartie tweets he’s been released by Jets

Antonio Cromartie is saying goodbye to Gang Green.

In a series of tweets thanking his teammates and fans, the veteran cornerback announced on Sunday he’s been released by the Jets.

The move has since been confirmed by multiple team beat writers.

It’s an expected transaction by New York, who saves $9.5 million against the salary cap. Cromartie carried a $14.98 million cap charge for 2014 — much too high for a corner coming off a down season.

While the Jets may bring back Cromartie at a reduced rate, they will first look elsewhere for a replacement. Recent reports have linked the club to Titans free agent Alterraun Verner.
