Darrelle Revis likes his contracts how he likes his sundaes — with a cherry on top.
The All-Pro cornerback reunited with the Jets last week on a five-year, $70 million pact, which includes $39 million in guarantees. Revis is now the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, with career earnings eclipsing $85,000,000.
And one numerical homage.
Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, the annual average value of Revis’ contract is $14,024,212. If that number seems odd, it’s because the Jets included the “24” for his jersey number and “212” for one of New York City’s area codes.
New York tacked on money to the back-end of the deal in order to meet that very specific average value. It was, they likely figured, the least they could do after securing the top free agent, a player whose own island, ironically, puts the team back on the NFL map.
