Some things so far...

1. No, he doesn't consistently blow you away, but that guy Cats relentlessly ballwashes is a heck of a player...and I'm not talking about Cam. Steve Smith just delivered a block about 40 or 50 yards downfield for Cam on Newton's TD run. When you watch the highlight of the run, you can't miss it. Great stuff. Great effort.

2. Adrian Peterson is hellbent on making a push toward braking up the Sanders/Payton/Brown trifecta in terms of the greatest of the greatest running backs. Ponder has a 43 passer rating on nine attempts to this point...and Peterson is personally outscoring the Bears 14-7. 125 yards and two TD's...he's not human at this point. It's almost a given that he'll finish this game over 1600 for the season. His latest tear has singlehandedly carried my LegitimateRapeSquad into the H2H fantasy playoffs and he is giving me one helluva chance to upset the number 1 seed today. If you were here Adrian, I'd buy you a lapdance...hell, I'd buy you ten of them.

3. Of course the San Diego defense decides to play it's game of the year today...I sat them and started (you guessed it!) the Falcons' D. The only silver lining in that is at least the yippy yinzers will have to shut the fuck up for a week.

I thought because elite Roethlisberger was back, the Steelers were going to go back to being elite themselves?

It was inevitable. The Chargers will win out to get to 8-8, not make the playoffs but finish strong enough so that the 8x10 glossies Turner has on ownership will be enough to be back next year.

Fortunately, both Cincy and Baltimore lost today, so that takes a small amount of the sting out of that horrible loss today. Credit San Diego for playing a great game. The Steelers should have been ready for shit like fake punts being that San Diego has no playoff hopes and have a lame duck head coach.

Lon (Kansa City, Mo.): I'm a transplanted 'Burgh boy living in Kansas City. My wife was pregnant with my oldest son when the Steelers drafted an undersized former QB from Georgia with their (compensatory) 3rd round round draft pick in 1998. Now, just days ago sitting here with my almost 14-year-old son watching Hines give his retirement speech...couldn't help but think how fast time flies when you're having fun. Thanks Hines for everything! We will miss your tough catches for first downs when we needed them most, your crushing blocks that had linebackers complaining about rough treatment from WRs, and above all, your smile! You're the consummate football player, pro, and thankfully, Steeler for life! Black and Gold forever!

Nick (Cleveland): As a Browns fan, my memories of Hines Ward will always be his [expletive] smile. There were so many times I wish someone on my beloved Browns could slap it off his face, but we never did. Now that he is retired, I can see myself always referring back to that smile. He was one of the greatest complete wide receivers I had the displeaure of watching bury my Browns year after year in his storied career. Glad to see him go out on a high note. Take care Hines! IMO, a sure fire Hall of Famer.

I know there are lots of twists and turns during any given season...but who woulda thought on opening day that the week 16 Pittsburgh-Cincy game would probably end up being a play-in game for the 6 seed.

damn...I think Seattle's defense went to sleep a little early..Arizona's QBs actually managed to combine for 100+ yards passing...

ok it has major negative fantasy implications for me if he scores any more points so i could be a hair biased but I think I am still being objective when I ask, why the hell is Brees still in this game??

it is a complete lost cause...save the fire for next week because though on life support, you do still have an outside shot at a WC berth.

but they are still alive you dont quit until you are done...they were done in this game, (When I made the comment they were down by 4 scores with about 4 minutes to play) they were not done for the year

or, more directly, playoff hopes alive or no... you don't risk the only thing keeping your shitty franchise from coming completely unglued by parading his expensive ass in garbage time

(and now I know it wasn't just fantasy talking because I won anyway despite his herculean garbage time stat padding festival and I still feel the same about it)

Ugh, you are just as bad as the media. I can't wait until the Saints are mathematically eliminated so that way I don't have to hear about analysts week after week now saying, "Do they still have a shot?!? A last playoff push?!?"

They've got the Seahawks, Cowboys, Redskins, Buccaneers, Rams, and Vikings all ahead of them for that last spot. If the Saints manage to make the playoffs, I will personally mail you my own testicles

ooooooohhwwwweeee!! Did I not just bookmark that shit, buddy! I'm not a fan of the NO by any means, but if they get to the playoffs, you'll have made my David Carr mishap seem benign in comparison. So I guess I am now a Saints fan, huh?

they are planning a 2013 season right?

therefore letting their million dollar franchise QB parade around and try and soothe his wounded pride is stupid.

yes the odds of him getting hurt are fairly low, though not quite "mail me your testicles"* low, and stranger shit has certainly happened.

you think they had it bad this year...try rolling through the first few weeks of 2013 with this lineup, only sub curtis painter (or whoever the shit their backup is) for Brees and watch them make KC look like world beaters by comparison.

*which btw..um pass., how about if they make the playoffs you use all your famous connections to get me a weekend with one of those Eagle cheerleaders...or hell even..you'll send me your autographed Michael Vick blankie

Shows you how much you know. And after a stat line like Ben put up yesterday, I'm surprised your not on here singing his praises. Seeing how you base everything on a fantasy football mentality.

And listen, yesterday's loss is on EVERYone. Credit to the Chargers for playing a great game, but that was NOT the same O-line I saw the week before. That was NOT the same DF effort that I've watched over the past month. I mean the Chargers offense was 12 for 18 on third down conversions in the first 3 quarters.

And I've finally figured out why Mike Wallace rubs me the wrong way. He is the EXACT same player as Chad Johnson. A ton of talent, very good stats, but NEVER makes that clutch catch when you need it the most. Like yesterday, Steelers trailing 3-0, Roethlisberger extends the play and puts one on a rope 45 yards down field and Wallace drops what would have been a TD and a HUGE momentum changer.

Listen, my wife said to me yesterday as we were watching the Saints vs Giants, "why does it seem like we watch more Saints games than Steeler games?" because they've been on so many national TV games, I've watched at least 6 or 7 of their games this season. And let me say, Drew Brees is having a shitty season. Maybe because he knows that his DF is so shitty he feels he has to put it on his shoulders and force passes. Or maybe because his HC isn't there to provide the feed back that he needs. But I've NEVER seen him throw so many WTF passes into double and triple coverage.

yeah I guess we'll have to wait until next year to see if he still has "it"...but in the meantime I am comfortable giving him a "trying to do too much while slinging the whole team on his back" pass for the majority of this season.
